I hope at least some of you know what VoIP is. For those that don't, It's short for Voice over IP. It's been around for since 2003, if not earlier. Anyway, the basic concept is it uses your broadband connection for your home phone calls. The obvious benefit is you can save a bundle when you drop your traditional phone service. The other perks of VoIP is since its relatively new, companies that offer VoIP give free fringe benefits like free phones, free features (long distance, caller ID, call forwarding, etc.), all in the hopes to build a customer base.
The reason VoIP peaked my interest is Verizon recently announced that they are offering DSL as a standalone service. I knew that they would create a hassle before if you tried to drop the traditional phone service. But they can't really do that now with that announcement.
So now I have to do some research and find out which VoIP service is the best out there. I know everyone out there has heard of Vonage. But I been getting snail mail flyers from another company called SunRocket. SunRocket seems to offer a really good price plan at $199 for a whole year of service. But I got to hold off and do some research on the quality of the service and quality of their customer service before I drop two benjamins on the service.
