I haven't done a weekend recap post probably since early this year. I'm testing it out w/ this moblogging on my Treo 650.
Friday night, I went to Bryant park for some free skating. I think they have it every year as their opening day event. If you walk in, you can obviously tell why. Besides the lockers, nothing else was setup. In fact, you see them doing construction while you're there. It looked like you walked into a constructon site by accident.
Anyway, the weather wasn't really cooperating that night. There was a light rain the whole time we were there. I actually thought about ditching my friends (Nelson, Hilda, Shirley) when I got out of work and saw the rain. But I'm not that type of a friend. So I just went back to my desk and got an umbrella instead.
We skated for about like 2 hrs, in the rain. I'm glad we weren't completely soaking wet, although Hilda had a wool jacket on, and that soaked up water like a mop. I was barely wet. I haven't skated since last year when Chelsea piers had a free skating event at their sky rink to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Before that, it must have been since my high school days that I skated. I'm surprise I still know how. But its exactly the same as riding a bike. Once you learn it, you won't forget it.
Saturday, we had a big gathering at Hilda's house (Hilda, Nelson, Jessica, Karen, Joe, Lisa, and me). We had a scary movie marathon. It was fun. I don't recall going to one before. I mean, I been to friends house and watched movies, yeah. But this was one that was planned from early on in the week. We all even voted for what movies to watch. It came down to Stephen King's It, The Hills have Eyes, and Ringu. Karen and I end up going to Blockbuster to pick up the movies (besides Ringu, which Nelson already has). It took nearly an hour to find "It", and it was a small Blockbuster. Maybe that was why it was so hard. But we finally found it, buried in a section specifically for Stephen King movies. But when we brought it to the counter, the clerk told us that the movie was checked out. What a waste of time! So we ended up renting something that Hilda didn't want to watch, Scary Movie 4.
I guess we kinda suck at picking movies, cuz we all thought all 3 movie sucked. Actually, Nelson saw The Hills had Eyes already and was against renting it. But I saw Ringu before and I was against watching that. Scary Movie 4 had a few laughs at the beginning (with Shaq & Dr. Phil) but that was about it. The rest of the movie was about spoofing rather than comedy. And even the comedy was really stupid. The Hills have Eyes was probably the best out of all 3 movies. It was your classic American horror movie, a lot of blood, a lot of gore. There were a ton of scenes that were freaking all the girls out. That was a lot of fun. Since Nelson saw it already, he knew there was a jump scene coming up (something scary popping up w/o warning), he timed it just right and freaked Karen out. Between Karen and Lisa, they can probably compete for the crown of scream queen. I wonder if Hilda's landlord complained about all the screaming from the girls.
But we all definitely had fun that night, at least more than last year, when we went to stand and watch the Halloween Parade. Considering how boring it was, I don't think we are going to go this year.
